About

92Jelani is a Los Angeles-based techno artist known for his deeply immersive live sets built around a eurorack modular system, with a particular focus on “West-Coast Synthesis” inspired by Buchla systems. Jelani’s music balances analog texture with rhythmic precision—pulling listeners into a raw, hypnotic experience that’s as meditative as it is physical.

Born in 1992, the “92” in his name is both a timestamp and a tribute. It nods to the early 90s era that shaped his musical identity—from the raw energy of early rave records to the styles and soul of golden-era hip-hop. Flip the digits into letters, and 92Jelani becomes “I B Jelani”—a personal mantra of selfhood and creative independence.

His roots trace back to DJing nightclubs at just 16, with a monthly residency at DC’s legendary U Street Music Hall—named one of Rolling Stone’s Top 10 Nightclubs in America. After relocating to LA in 2012, Jelani evolved beyond just playing records to releasing original productions on labels like Ambivalent’s Valence and the community run Black Techno Matters label, while also self-releasing music through Bandcamp.

Though his primary focus is on modular-based live performance, 92Jelani remains a skilled and sought-after DJ, known for delivering heavy warehouse sets that move bodies and minds. He’s played Mixmag’s The Lab LA (2020), 6AM’s REFORM Festival (2021), and Hyperspace alongside Josh Wink and Adam X (2022)—cementing his reputation across both underground and festival stages.

In recent years, he’s also stepped into the role of mixing and mastering engineer, working out of his home studio with artists such as Santiago Salazar, Vinson, Soltera, Neyva, and more from LA’s vibrant underground. For 92Jelani, the mission is holistic: build, perform, refine, and release—all from within.

Whether behind a modular wall or a pair of decks, 92Jelani brings a deep-rooted vision to every set—a sound informed by history, driven by intention, and built to resonate.
